The most veteran actor of the HKREP, Chow Chi Fai is among Hong Kongˇ¦s best-known stage artists. Ever since joining the HKREP as part-time actor in 1979 and becoming a full-time company member two years later, he has continued to project his professionalism from the stage to his audience throughout the decades.
Chow has played in countless productions, most likely holding the record among his peers, encompassing tragedy, comedy, farce and musical theatre. Among the roles, some are especially well-loved by his audiences such as Pak Long in I Have a Date With Spring, Uncle Fu in Sweet and Sour Hong Kong, the cross-dressing role of Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest, and the Black Box production Papa Mama, Thy Wind Blows Ever that was based on his personal experience.
Chow was awarded Best Actor (Tragedy/Drama) once and Best Supporting Actor (Tragedy/Drama) twice for The Story of Qu Yuan, The Mad Phoenix and Proof respectively. He was also nominated Best Supporting Actor for The Importance of Being Earnest (Comedy/Farce) and Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land (Tragedy/Drama). In 2004, Chow received a Best Actor nomination for his performance in Sweet and Sour Hong Kong at the 15th Shanghai Magnolia Stage Award.
Chow is also a veteran voice artist. His voice has appeared in more than a hundred local films and overseas animated productions, his performance as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story and the Master Shifu in Kung Fu Panda being the most popular ones.
Chow is a graduate of the Chinese Department, Hong Kong Baptist University.
