A specialist in drama education, Chow Chiu Lun joined the HKREP as a full-time actor in 1995. Since 2002, he has also taken on the position as Outreach and Education coordinator. From 2004 onward, Chow has focussed his efforts in developing and expanding HKREP・s outreach and education programmes.
Chow has organized well-received drama education activities, such as programmes for drama education in the New Senior Secondary (NSS) Curriculum・s :Other Learning Experiences; and programmes in tandem with the Hong Kong City Hall Venue Partnership Scheme. From 2008 to 2010, he also devised teaching materials for the elective module :Drama Workshops; in the NSS Chinese Language Curriculum, which was published by the Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company.
In order to strengthen the HKREP・s mission in serving Hong Kong, Chow has fostered close collaborations in recent years with government organizations and within the community, promoting the dramatic arts to the general public and at the same time advocating healthy and proper attitudes to life. HKREP・s partner organizations include the Hong Kong Correctional Services, the Narcotics Division of the Security Bureau, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention. Since 2010, Chow has created the HKREP Outreach Studio, holding regular drama programmes for toddlers, children, young people and adults, putting into practice the company・s mission to enrich Hong Kong people's artistic and cultural life.
Apart from educational projects, Chow has also participated in creative positions in the theatre. He has scripted and directed HKREP・s various touring productions for secondary schools, some among them are The Story of Ah Yu and Following the Tracks of Good Things. He is also involved in directing, script translation and adaptation outside the HKREP; he has been a regular at local drama festivals.
Chow graduated in 1992 with distinction from the School of Drama, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he was awarded Outstanding Actor. He then pursued acting studies with the French dramatist Philippe Gaulier in England. In 1996, he won First Prize in the Short Plays Competition with Teacher Mr. Jim and His Three Sex Partners. In Drama Festival 2001, he received both Outstanding Director and Outstanding Performance awards for the production Men Murders Nature Murders Men.
Chow is currently enrolled in the MFA (Drama and Theatre Education) degree programme at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
