Wai Hang was the first year graduate of the School of Drama,
The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She joined the
HKRep as a full-time actress in 1988. In 1998-2001, she was
promoted to be the Principal Actress and co-act as the Assistant
to the Artistic Director from 2002-2004. Starting from April,
2004, Fung also acts as the Project Co-ordinator of HKRep¡¦s
newly launched ¡§Rep 2 ¡§ programmes.
In 1996, Fung was awarded a scholarship
by the Asian Cultural Council to study drama in the States.
There, she received practical training at the Denver Center
Theatre Company, took part in Ann Bogart¡¦s and other workshops
in New York. She also produced and directed her first experimental
work Red Luna at La-ma-ma Experimental Theatre (New
York Off-broadway).
After her study, she further embarked
her directing and creative job in HKRep. She has been the
playwright and director in black box productions: Crossings
(1999), The Backyard (2001) and A Matter of 4
x 6 (2002). She also co-directed the original musical
Departure 00:00 (2003).
In 1992 and 2002, Fung was awarded the
Best Supporting Actress (Tragedy / Drama) Award for her performance
of Nancy in I Have A Date With Spring and playing
the role of Hot Pot in We are One Family at the Hong
Kong Drama Awards. And in 1994 and 1995, she won the Best
Actress Awards (Comedy / Farce) playing Alice in You Can¡¦t
Take It With You and Truffaldino in The Servant of
Two Masters. Recently, Fung received massive compliments
from Hong Kong, Shanghai and Hangzhou by playing the vulgar
garbage collector Hot Pot in the musical Sweet & Sour
Hong Kong and won the 15th Shanghai Magnolia Stage Award¡V
Best Supporting Actress. In 2005, she was nominated Best Supporting
Actress (Comedy / Farce) at the HK Drama Awards for her work
of Anita in A Small Family Business.
In 2002, Fung was appointed as one of
the panel judges for the Hong Kong Drama Awards, Hong Kong
Federation of Drama Societies.
At 16 th HK Drama Awards In 2007,
she was nominated Best Actress (Comedy / Farce) for her work
of Mrs Ho in Si Nai on Rock (Orginal comedy).
