Lui Si Lan is a veteran actress who has played a wide variety of roles. Formerly a professional singer in the Guangzhou Song and Dance Troupe, Lui joined the HKREP in 1983 and since then has appeared in more than 170 stage productions.
She is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin, and has played leading roles in The Importance of Being Earnest, which is the HKREP¡¦s first Putonghua production , as well as King Lear, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Other People's Money, and Yan Xijiao.
In the past decades, Lui has played a wide range of stage characters that have enthralled the audience, from Empress Dowager Ci Xi (De Ling and Empress Dowager Ci Xi, Cantonese version), Ming Zhen (Forever and Ever), Ethel (Moon Over Buffalo), Gigi (Communicating Doors) as well as Papa Mama, Thy Wind Blows Ever, a HKREP Black Box production based on her personal experience. Lui was nominated Best Actress (Tragedy/Drama) and Best Supporting Actress (Comedy/Farce) for Forever and Ever and Moon Over Buffalo respectively at the Hong Kong Drama Awards.
In the last few years, Lui has been sharing her rich acting experience in schools. Not only does she conduct drama workshops, but she also contributes in drama education by giving performances in local primary and secondary schools. Lui is also active in the popular media, appearing in commercials as well as television programmes of Radio Television Hong Kong.
