Since joining the HKREP in 2001, Tan Hui Lei Karrie¡¦s creativity and imagination has left her unique imprint on many productions. Her recent performances in such leading roles as Ah Ai in Love You Forever, the title role of Alice in Bed, Veronique in Le Dieu du carnage and Paulina in Death and the Maiden have garnered critical praise.

In addition, her innovative works for the HKREP Black Box¡XThose were the Days (2005), The Labels (2009) and Hollow Room (2011)¡Xhave won her many fans.

While studying drama at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Tan¡¦s role in Steel Magnolias already earned her Best Supporting Actress (Tragedy/Drama) at the Hong Kong Drama Awards. In 2006, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress (Comedy/Farce) for February 14. In 2009, she was nominated for Best Actress (Comedy/Farce) for Love You Forever and for Best Supporting Actress (Tragedy/Drama) for Hello in There. A year later, she was again nominated for Best Actress (Tragedy/Drama) for her performance in Alice in Bed.

In 2009, Tan received the Sir Robert Black Trust Fund Postgraduate Scholarship for pursuing her studies at the Birmingham School of Acting, where she received a Master¡¦s Degree in Drama with first class honours. In the same year, London¡¦s The Stage singled her out as an upcoming star.
