As a gesture of support for Beijing 2008, this new musical is inspired by a real-life Hong Kong story about Chinese people playing football during another Olympic year.
This story takes place in 1936, when China was under siege from within and without, and Hong Kong was still a colonial enclave. A team of amateur football players from Tai Hang Village in Causeway Bay joined up with Chinese players to make up the "China team" for the Berlin Olympics, representing China on the football field.
Anthony Chan has based his inspiration on this story, making it into a moving account of youths of the time.
