A homage to Goethe and Marlowe’s Timeless Masterpieces
Having grown weary of life and the limitations of human knowledge, scholar Dr. Faustus (Poon Chan Leung) makes a pact with the devil Mephastophilis (Man Tsz Leung) to break away from mortal, humdrum existence. In exchange for his soul, Faust experiences one and all to his heart’s desire. But can the idealist escape the shackles of the devil?
Written and directed by HKRep Artistic Director Anthony Chan, the script is based on Christopher Marlowe’s The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus and Goethe’s Faust. The epic staging of Dr. Faustus will unfold with a contemporary sense of rhythm and an array of theatrical effects. It is a sure dynamo that will mark another pinnacle of Hong Kong drama.
