Chris Sun Actor

Chris Sun joined the HKRep in 1994. An expert in portraying the common man, he has starred in such comedic productions as Art, Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land and Shed Skin. He is also adept in the internal struggles of tragic heroes, as in The Crucible, Zheng He and the Emperor and Reverie of an Empire. Among his recent productions are Speaking in TonguesA Dream Like a Dream, Le Père, Marriage (Re-run), Principle (2018), Die Firma dankt, Reincarnation of the Prunus Mume and Buried Child.

Sun has been nominated 14 times at the Hong Kong Drama Awards for his performances in Before the Rain Stops, The Native Son of Beijing, An Absolute Turkey, BlindnessA Flea in Her Ear, Footprints in the Snow (re-run), Whose Wife is it Anyway?, Hu Xueyan, my Dear (1st run), Die Firma dankt and Principle(2018). To date, he has received four awards: Best Supporting Actor (Tragedy/Drama) for A Dream Like a Dream (2003), Best Actor (Tragedy/Drama) for Whose Life is it Anyway? (2006), Best Actor (Comedy/Farce) for Art (2008) and Shed Skin (2012). In addition, the 10th Chinese Drama Festival awarded him Best Actor for Footprints in the Snow, in 2016. Most recently, he received Best Supporting Actor at the 3rd Chinese Theatre Awards for his performance in Marriage.

Sun is also active behind the scenes. He was assistant director in The Big Meal (2019) and Wolf in the House. Earlier, he was the assistant to the director in From Sunset to Sunrise, Xi Nai on Rock, A Bowlful of Kindness and I Have a Date with Autumn. He was co-playwright of The Lost and Found Trilogy, created the story for Drama Gallery’s Detective Women and presented his script A Night of Love Songs in the Prospect Theatre’s Playwright Scheme III. He is currently the board member of Drama Gallery.

Sun graduated from the School of Drama, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in acting.
