Chow Chiu Lun
A specialist in drama education, Chow Chiu Lun joined the HKRep as a full-time actor in 1995. Since 2002, he has also taken on the position as Outreach and Education coordinator. From 2004 onward, Chow has focused his efforts in developing and expanding HKRep’s outreach and education programmes.
Chow has organized well-received drama education activities, such as programmes for drama education in the New Senior Secondary (NSS) Curriculum’s “Other Learning Experiences”, programmes in tandem with the Hong Kong City Hall Venue Partnership Scheme, the “Drama in Pre-primary Education: Funful Learning Project—Professional Training Programme for Early Childhood Teachers”, in which 440 schools has participated and nearly 1,000 teachers has been trained and the 1st HKREP Children Theatre Festival. From 2008 to 2010, he also devised teaching materials for the elective module “Drama Workshops” in the NSS Chinese Language Curriculum, which was published by the Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company.
In order to strengthen the HKRep’s mission in serving Hong Kong, Chow has fostered close collaborations in recent years with government organizations and within the community, promoting the dramatic arts to the general public and at the same time advocating healthy and proper attitudes to life. HKRep’s partner organizations include the Hong Kong Correctional Services, the Narcotics Division of the Security Bureau, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention. Since 2010, Chow has established the HKRep Outreach Studio (renamed as Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Affiliated Drama School in 2013), holding regular drama programmes for toddlers, children, young people and adults, putting into practice the company’s mission to enrich Hong Kong people’s artistic and cultural life.
Apart from educational projects, Chow has also participated in creative positions in the theatre. He has scripted and directed HKRep’s various touring productions for secondary schools, some among them are The Story of Ah Yu and Following the Tracks of Good Things. His play Up to the Sky(衝上雲霄) was selected by Hong Kong Education Bureau as suggested reading for Secondary Students in 2012.
Chow graduated in 1992 with distinction from the School of Drama, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he was awarded Outstanding Actor. He then pursued his professional development through postgraduate study in HKAPA. In 2012, Chow gained Master of Fine Arts, major in Drama/ Theatre Education with Distinction. He always focuses on the learning process through interactive drama and the learning methodology of Museum Theatre was practiced as his Master thesis.
