Open casting call for the original Cantonese musical The Impossible Trial

The original Cantonese musical The Impossible Trial is set to return to the stage in 2025, and we are hosting an open call audition for new cast members! Want to be a part of a Broadway-style musical that’s 100% made in Hong Kong? The West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) and Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKRep) invite you to join the acting company, share your talent and make history together!
The first Cantonese musical commissioned by West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), The Impossible Trial was co-produced by WKCDA and HKRep, and premiered in 2022 followed by a 2023 rerun, both to popular and critical acclaim. In addition to winning a number of local drama awards including Best Production, Best Original Music (Musical), Best Lyrics, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor (Tragedy / Drama), the show has also quickly become a smash hit among Hong Kong and mainland audiences. In 2025, The Impossible Trial will debut in Mainland China and have its second rerun at the Xiqu Centre.
The team behind The Impossible Trial features some of Hong Kong’s top theatre talent, including composer and musical director Leon Ko, lyricist Chris Shum, playwright Cheung Fei Fan, director Fong Chun Kit, staging director and choreographer Ivanhoe Lam, and scenographer Wong Yat Kwan. Throughout the creative process and the show’s several runs, they took the production through rounds of refinement over the years, which eventually resulted in a modern classic that marks an important milestone in Hong Kong’s musical theatre history.
In preparation for The Impossible Trial’s upcoming rerun and long-term plans, the production team is now hiring new cast members through an open call! If you are interested, please read the below requirements carefully and complete the online application form on or before the deadline.
