An elephant escapes from the zoo, wreaking havoc in town and disrupting election campaigns, leading to a public outcry. While the zookeeper—now a pariah—is held for questioning, testimonies from the detective, the zookeeper’s mother, his colleague and doctor contain wild digressions. Which of them is telling the truth about the elephant’s escape?
 
That’s Not True first appeared at the HKRep Black Box in 2022, catching the first wave when theatres reopened in Hong Kong. Although the short run garnered enthusiastic response, both the performance schedule and seating capacity were severely limited, and many theatre lovers missed out. Now the HKRep has made a video of this production for on-demand streaming, hoping more people can appreciate this fine drama from Korea. After That’s Not True premiered in South Korea in 2012, it garnered such accolades as Best Production, Best Director and Best Actor at the 49th Dong – A Theatre Awards and the Grand Prize, Best Director and Best Actor at the 5th Republic of Korea Theatre Awards.
